NASA: Former chief scientist discusses alien life

NASA plans to launch nude images into space as part of its latest plans to contact intelligent life elsewhere in the universe.

The proposed nude pictures won’t actually be photos of humans as might be assumed.

Instead, they will be anatomical drawings of a man and woman alongside some DNA, according to a recent NASA study.

The people will also be waving in the drawings, in keeping with the idea of making them look welcoming to possible recipients.

These sketches were shared as part of NASA’s ‘Beacon in the Galaxy’ project, reports Chron.

Its whole aim is to spark communication and make contact with alien civilisation.

Alongside the drawings, the transmitted message will also contain a simple world map and a diagram detailing how gravity on Earth works.

According to scientists, the message will be written in a binary code. Experts believe this can be understood by aliens.

The study says: “Though the concept of mathematics in human terms is potentially unrecognizable to ETI, binary is likely universal across all intelligence.

“Binary is the simplest form of mathematics as it involves only two opposing states: zero and one, yes or no, black or white, mass or empty space.”

Basic maths and physics will also be part of the message. It will be “to establish a universal means of communication followed by information on the biochemical composition of life on Earth, the Solar System’s time-stamped position in the Milky Way relative to known globular clusters, as well as digitized depictions of the Solar System, and Earth’s surface,” the study adds.

Naked images of humans have entered space before now.

Astrophysicist Carl Sagan took drawings of a naked man and woman with him on his Pioneer and Voyager missions in the 1970s. On these occasions the drawings were much less detailed.
